Changes at West Penn Hospital

On July 1, 2010 West Penn Hospital announced that it will be changing its focus from a full-service hospital to concentrate in women's health, bariatrics and burn care. The announcement caught us somewhat by surprise. Since that time, the administration has decided to move more of their surgical and medical practices to Allegheny General Hospital. Representatives from the hospital have encouraged our practice to stay and become part of the new women's health center.

In order to practice 21st century care for women with gynecologic cancers and other serious health problems, doctors need access to a range of services available at a general hospital. In addition, a working emergency room is critical.

We have decided to maintain our office at West Penn for the time being. In 2008, we worked closely with architects to make the space to our standards. It is unlikely that we will find an office as convenient and comfortable as this tailor-made office suite.

Our practice will continue to use UPMC Shadyside and West Penn for surgery and hospital admissions. The decision will be made largely on the basis of patient's insurance restrictions.

Please contact the office should you have any questions or concerns.
